HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-03-06 High Surf Advisory CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date: Friday, March 06, 2020 MEDIA UPDATE Time: 1 PM Frequency: Every 3 hours Update #: 1 Incident: High Surf Advisory This is a Civil Defense High Surf Advisory message for Friday, March 6 at 1 in the afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for all east facing shores of Hawaii Island from Hamakua, Hilo, Puna, and Ka'u Districts through this Sunday. A High Surf Advisory means surf will be higher than normal, shore break, and dangerous currents could cause injury or death. Due to the High Surf Advisory, the following are issued; • Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous. • Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. • Beaches may be closed without notice. • There are no beach closures at this time.
