Noda Managing Director Deputy Director County of Hawai‘i DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT 345 Kekūanāoʻa Street, Suite 41 · Hilo, Hawai‘i 96720 Ph: (808) 961-8083 · Fax: (808) 961-8086 Email: cohdem@hawaiicounty.gov NEWS RELEASE March 30, 2020 Contact: Michael Kaha, Solid Waste Division Deputy Chief, County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management (Solid Waste Admin 808-961- 8270) LOAD SIZE RESTRICTION – EAST HAWAI`I REGIONAL SORT STATION MONDAY, MARCH 30, 2020 – SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2020: • Businesses hauling commercially generated wastes in quantities greater than five (5) cubic yards are restricted from using the sort station East Hawai`i Regional Sort Station services are closed to businesses hauling commercially generated wastes larger than five (5) cubic yards, effective Monday, th March 30, 2020 through Saturday, May 2, 2020. A five cubic yard load will fit in a standard size pickup truck with an eight (8) foot long bed filled up to the top of the cab. The Sort Station, located at the South Hilo Sanitary Landfill (aka Hilo Dump), will continue to accept businesses hauling residentially generated waste loads of less than five cubic yards, during regular business hours from 7:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.daily. The County of Hawaii’s Department of Environmental Management is taking these measures to prioritize household trash and to ensure families staying at home during this COVID-19 crisis are able to dispose of their household trash each and every day.
