The Food Basket is providing island-wide drive-through `Ohana Drops with produce and food
distribution in an effort to avoid crowds who can spread the COVID 19 coronavirus. "Best
practices" for distribution as recommended by Feeding America (national food bank network)
and the CDC are being implemented.
Participants will remain in their cars, with volunteers providing directions with signage to limit
personal contact. Food will be placed in trunks by volunteers and staff based on how many
family members - with information given by numbers of fingers raised on the participants hand
(s) - with a volunteer noting on a sticky note that is then placed on the windshield prior to the
vehicle moving to the food distribution area.
Food boxes will contain enough non-perishable food for one person for 14 days and the produce
bags will provide locally grown seasonal produce as a complement. `Ohana Drops are expected
to serve several thousand residents islandwide.
