NEWS RELEASE
Mayor Kim Tells Community that Help from the Federal Government is on the
Way amid COVID-19
Hawai‘i County Mayor Harry Kim tells the community that help from the Federal
government is on the way to assist the many people of Hawai‘i who are suffering the
effects of COVID-19.
The Mayor said in a video posted on his Facebook and Twitter pages on Thursday that
Senator Brian Schatz informed him that $4 billion in Federal funds were earmarked for
Hawai‘i to assist with unemployment, medical and other crucial needs. The money is to
be shared among the counties.
“This money is dedicated and is only to be used for victims of coronavirus,” Mayor Kim
said. The funds will be used to help people suffering from bankruptcy, unemployment,
medical needs, mortgage defaults, and other issues, he said.
“We promise you that once the information comes down, there will be a total
coordination between the Federal, the County and the State to make sure you get the
information, and anything that you’re eligible for will be made available to you.”
