CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY <br />MEDIA UPDATE <br />Incident: Coronavirus Update Message <br />This is a Civil Defense message. <br />Date: March 11, 2020 <br />Time: 1:00 PM <br />Frequency: Every 3 hours <br />Update #: 1 <br />This is a Coronavirus informational update for Wednesday, March 11 at 1 in the afternoon. <br />The following is a Department of Health Update: <br />• There are no new positive coronavirus cases in Hawaii. The two existing cases are in isolation and <br />under observation on Oahu. <br />• The World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus a pandemic, which means there is an <br />increase and sustained transmission in the general population. <br />• We may not be able to prevent the spread of the coronavirus to our island, but you can make a <br />difference right now by staying informed, following health advisories and taking action to protect <br />yourself and your family. <br />Up Date on Cruise Ship Grand Princess: <br />• The Department of Health continues to investigate if the Grand Princess cruise ship passengers during <br />their visit to Hawaii posed any threat to Hawaii residents when it was docked at the Port of Hilo on <br />Saturday, February 29. You will be kept informed of the results of the investigation. <br />• DOT Port Authority and Norweigen Cruiseline officials met with County officials to share what <br />preventative measures they are taking to keep passengers and ports -of -call safe. <br />The following National travel policies are in effect: <br />• The Department of State "Do Not Travel" advisories for China and Iran remain in effect, "Reconsider <br />Travel" advisories have been issued for Italy, Mongolia, and South Korea, and "Exercise Increased <br />Caution Travel" advisories continue for Hong Kong, Japan, and Macau. <br />• In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend you not travel to China, Iran, <br />Italy, and South Korea. <br />• For your information, as the coronavirus conditions change rapidly, you should verify Department of <br />State and CDC travel and health advisories for where you are going before finalizing your travel plans. <br />The following is a Community Advisory on Keeping Hawaii Safe: <br />• As a reminder, we all need to do our part to keep our Island and 'Ohana (family) safe. <br />If you feel sick with cold or flu-like symptoms, the Department of Health recommends the following <br />measures be taken; <br />o Stay home from work or school. <br />o Avoid contact with others <br />o Seek medical care with your doctor or healthcare clinic. <br />Additionally, your help is needed to prevent rumors about Coronavirus.
