CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY MEDIA UPDATE Incident: Coronavirus Update Message This is a Civil Defense message. Date: March 14, 2020 Time:10:30AM Frequency: Every 3 hours Update #: 1 This is a Coronavirus informational update for Saturday, March 14 at 10:30 in the morning. The following are Policy Updates: • President Trump has issued a National Emergency Declaration which will enable needed resources, remove obstacles, and increase testing capacity to battle the coronavirus pandemic affecting the United States. On National Travel Policies: • Before traveling, review Travel Advisories, Alerts, and Notices for worldwide destinations at www.:travel_.statee ov/destination. The State Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide specific advice to travelers on their websites. On Department of Health Update: • Department of Health reports no cases of coronavirus on Hawaii Island. • There are 2 new positive coronavirus cases on the island of Kauai which were confirmed late Friday for 2 travelers. All cases are in isolation and under observation on both Oahu and Kauai. The community must come together and take action to prevent the spread of coronavirus to our island. You can make a difference right now by staying informed, following health advisories, and taking action to protect yourself and your family. Update on Cargo Shipping: • There is no shortage of food in Hawaii. The Department of Transportation - Harbors and Matson report that Cargo shipping between the West Coast and interisland are operating as normal. All harbors will remain open to continue the movement of freight. • There is a shortage of santition and cleaning products. This is partly due to hoarding and panic buying. Please continue following general hygiene practices, such as using soap and water when available, to help curb this shortage. The following is a Community Advisory on Keeping Hawaii Safe: • As a reminder, we all need to do our part to keep our Island and 'Ohana (family) safe. Your help is needed to prevent rumors about Coronavirus . Make sure your information is up-to-date and comes from a credible source.
