Aloha,
I am very concerned about this proposed plan for several reasons. Having seen,first-hand, in countless incidents over
the past 6 years since returning home, the hazardous and destructive behavior of visitors to Waipio Valley. I am really
concerned about the possibility of bringing those hazards and destruction to the Waipio Rim area as well. I think the
county needs to address the unsafe and destructive situations caused by visitors on the Waipio access road and down in
the valley before even thinking about creating another mess. Spend one day at the lookout and going down the access
road into the valley and you will see what I am talking about. Many visitors come here with a blatant disregard for the
care of the aina, they act as if they are entitled to go where they want, even if it's private property or will cause a danger
to themselves or others.
This proposed plan is not a good idea. We need to be addressing current issues and try to protect and preserve these
special places. I don't want their beauty to be kept from visitors but too many visitors and too many disrespectful
visitors is not a good thing. Please address the ongoing, worsening situation in Waipio first. Consult with the residents of
the valley and the groups trying to preserve and protect it,get their input.
