I'm concerned about the inclusion of action 4.97 in the General Plan.
Waipi'o area is already a train wreck. It's one of our biggest attractions and continues to be pushed as a tourist
destination despite infrastructure that's seriously outdated and under-equipped for the numbers of people that visit in a
day.
By building a road along the rim of the valley, I feel the county is going to create many more problems than they will
solve. Uninformed and disrespectful people will abuse the privilege of being in an area like that.They will be generally
out of sight and left to their own devices. It's a huge cliff. People WILL explore beyond their welcome and they WILL fall
off. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when and how often.This is not to mention the additional opportunities for
litter and biological contamination like LFA and ROD being unknowingly spread to otherwise uninfected areas.
With all the improvements that existing roads in the county require to be SAFE-not just passible-I think there's better
uses for the county budget than building a new road that caters only to visitors.
All in all, action 4.97 is a terrible idea that gives little back to a community that is already stressed by tourism. I have read
and agree with all points made by Pohaha I Ka Lani in their response to this. Please count this as support for their
submission and for removing action 4.97 from the General Plan.
