To whom it may concern:
I am writing to you from France. I live in Kohala Ranch and I was alerted by my group : •
of friends, "who number 24 in total. We have been swimming at Mahukona Well over•a decade
together. It is one of the few remaining reef fish friendly places left on our island that has remairied...... _
authentically old Hawaii for us to enjoy.
I implore you to remove Mahukona from the Resort and Urban Designation 2040 Plan. Do not follow the
direction that Kauai and Maui have taken that has resulted in an overload of tourists they now must spend funds
to manage.
Our island is known by all other islands as still being"old Hawaii". Gated communities and resorts eradicate
this status. I know, I live in the Ranch. I moved there understanding it was gated due to the cows allowed to
wander freely. I loved the ranch concept. Well, the cows are gone! What we have left is gates and fences.
Don't make the same mistakes our fellow islands have out of greed. Hold Mahukona precious as we swimmers
do. What you decide to do will apply long after we, like the cows, are all gone. Act with caution. The conduct
ofour politicians should reflect the people not the pockets. That grave mistake still resonates from 1898.
