Subject: Take resort designation OFF the general plan 2040 map
Aloha, I am a resident of Hawi in Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is imperative that we as a people,are
heard and can make a difference in our community as well as our homes and the world. It is also vital•that'your;
as a leader and representative ofus are honest and response-able to intervene and consider the power that you:
have to do good not just for what may appear as an economical venture.
I believe that our community are willing to help plan and consider even other possibilities that would also allow
for an economically viable choice other than a resort at mahukona or any of our coastal regions in Kohala, if
economical motives are consideration in keeping Mahukona coastal friendly. It is more than an issue of public
access, although public access is essential. It is more than about being coastal friendly, although it is our
responsibility and privilege to care for and about our coast and ocean. It is more than being culturally aware of
the significance of the area here. Many cultures are a part ofthe significant history of Mahukona. For example,
Nishimura bay and the surrounding areas and Heiau are priceless to us, even those ofus who have moved here.
We all are caretakers of our environment. Please allow us to truly care for this area and plan a superior way to
do so other than a resort.
It is imperative that we honor and gift the generations that come after us in maintaining and improving our
coastal treasures by keeping them in tact. It is also imperative that we honor our past generations and the history
that is not only familial but also significant for all of us. In doing so, all will be blessed because of the
significance of this area.
Please take the time to visit and ask for a tour from the care taker there. As you do so, you will know the
responsibility that we all have to preserve not only the integrity ofthis coastal area, but ourown personal
integrity.
Mahalo for your time, consideration, and sincerity in following up with this decision and the consequences that
impact generations and every aspect of our well being as a community, county, state, and the influence this has
in our world.
