Subject: Hawaii County General Plan re: Mahukona and Mud Road
Dear Hawai'i County Planners,
As a resident of North Kohala, I implore you to remove the resort zoning from Mahukona County Park. Tl e&''.
park(and the whole North Kohala coastline) is a mostly unspoiled treasure that is utilized and appreciated by.a_.__,
locals and tourists alike. The land is at the top ofthe list for purchase as open space and should be zoned that—
way.
A resort will NEVER be built at Mahukona. You have already seen the huge level of support for rehabilitating
the park(300+people turned out for a Q&A with Parks &Rec Director and Tim Richards on Sep 25). Any
attempts to initiate a resort in the area will result in another Mauna Kea episode that will only end badly for the
County. Please, the Big Island has enough resorts. It's places like Mahukona that keep the other resorts busy-
it's an incredible natural and cultural resource that needs to be preserved in perpetuity.
Mud Road does not need any concessions to tourists. The Big Island already has more than enough places for
tourists to enjoy. Please help keep the few areas of rural country country. For the people and for the animals.
Thank you.
