Subject: Comments on the Draft General Plan 2040
Please remove the resort designation from the North Kohala map in the Hawaii County General Plan'2040.
Chalon and then Surety Kohala tried unsuccessfully for 30 years to create a resort by seeking zoning, subdivision and
other entitlements that would have added value to their property at Mahukona. Only the thriving Japanese economy.of the early 80s made it even worth considering a luxury resort on this isolated, arid and beachless coast. Kohala
residents fought the project until the Japanese economy faded, and the project did too. Why keep this area zoned for
a resort when the nature of this stretch of coast and the economy still cannot justify one? This area has much more
historical value. It is a fun park and is the closest (rustic) swimming area for North Kohala residents. It is not a tourist
attraction and will never be a resort. It is ranked highly for PONC purchase and this should be its destiny.
Thank you for considering my appeal.
