Message: I support the provisions of the plan that direct new residential development toward urban and rural buffer
zones. I think we need to do a better job of reducing the use of agricultural zoned lands as residential lots with little or
no agricultural use on the property. Possibly require those who want to live in more remote agricultural zoned areas to
create clustered rural developments or farm subdivisions of several housing units while maintaining most of the
remaining land in agricultural use through transfer of development rights.
I would like to see the resort/urban development zoning in the Mahukona area removed and possibly changed to
conservation or pastoral.The entire area from Kapaa Park,along the coast to Lapakahi Park should be conservation and
recreation (Ala Kahakai Trail)focused.
I support the objective of increasing agricultural processing facilities on agricultural lands.When renewable energy
resources(wind,solar) are present on agricultural lands there is a benefit to allowing non-peak use of the energy for
processing or storage of agricultural products.An example might be a cold storage facility for ag products adjacent to
wind turbines on ag land.
