This idea is deeply concerning to myself and everyone I know. People from around the world visit North Kohala. They love it for the same reasons that those who live here do. It's not overly developed. It has retained the open space that people need. Even people I have talked to in Kona are appalled at the idea that North Kohala could be ruined by such inappropriate development. North Kohala is a very sacred place to the Hawaiian People. There are numerous ancient village sites in the area. It's one of the few recreational areas that locals have not been driven out of by massive tourist use. The planning department has said that there is political pressure being put on them to keep resort zoning for Mahukona. I can only assume that pressure is coming from the Mayor's office. The question I, and many others here in North Kohala have is, why and why now. We deserve the right to know. The North Kohala coast needs to be protected from development not 1 129225
