Dear Mr.Yee:
I am writing today to request the County Planning Department change the recommended land use zoning from LDU to
MDU(Medium Density Urban)in the Hawaii General Plan-TMK(3) 9-4-001:020 located in Discovery Harbour.
There are many reasons I support this but here are a few:
1. The Ka'u District is very limited in amenities for travelers and our residents. We lack some of the basic amenities
other districts on our island take for granted. Do you know how many hotels we have in our District compared to other
Districts.....NONE!
2. It is a "smart area"to allow for MDU rather than the protected Coastal areas or Lava Zone 2 areas(which Ka'u District
comprises quite a bit of).
3. We need jobs in our community and not just agricultural jobs. Many believe that ag jobs are plentiful and the cure for
all in our area,but we need a diversified job market. We have many residents struggling to support their children. I just
spoke to a gal who works at the local service station today and she has a daughter playing volleyball and a son playing
football.We have limited jobs in our area so our residents have to catch an early bus (4:00am to Kona to work in resorts
there then come home late in the evening 8:00pm). Imagine how hard that must be for those families,not to mention the
worker.
Our district needs some reasonable and smart growth and Discovery Harbour area is the perfect area for this.
Please change the recommended land use zoning from LDU to MDU(Medium Density Urban)in the Hawaii General
Plan-TMK(3) 9-4-001:020 located in Discovery Harbour.
