Subject: Review of the Draft County of Hawaii General Plan 2040
The Department of Transportation(DOT)has reviewed the August 2019 draft ofthe County of Hawaii
General Plan 2040(Plan). We understand the Plan is the policy document for the long-range
comprehensive development of the island of Hawaii with a planning horizon of20-30 years.
The DOT,Highways Division(DOT-HWY)has determined that the Plan is consistent with their current
long-range land transportation plan FederalAid Highways 2035 Transportation Planfor the District of
Hawaii,July 2014.
DOT-HWY suggests the following revisions to specific agency action items:
1.58 State DOT:Mitigate rockfalls and road closures within the State jurisdiction
1.59 State DOT:Address and monitor known hazards along State transportation routes
1.60 State DOT:Key nodes within State transportation routes shall be designed or retrofitted as
needed,to withstand seismic events
