County of Hawaii Wins Coveted Award for Financial Reporting
The County of Hawai‘i Finance Department has won a national award for financial
reporting for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019, for the 32nd year in a row.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada
(GFOA) has awarded its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial
Reporting to the County’s Finance Department for its comprehensive annual financial
report (CAFR).
“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a
significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” according to a
GFOA press release.
To win the award, the County of Hawai‘i Finance Department was judged by an
impartial panel, demonstrating a “constructive spirit of full disclosure” in communicating
the Department’s financial story and motivating potential users to read its financial
report.
Hawai‘i County Mayor Harry Kim expressed pride in the accomplishments of the
Finance Department led by Director Deanna Sako. “This is the 32nd year that Finance
has won this prestigious award; it shows how dedicated and professional our Finance
people are.”
“Congratulations to our great Finance folks for the wonderful job they do,” Mayor Kim
said.
County of Hawai‘i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer.
