Chair Kossow and Members of the Redistricting Commission,
The following information addresses some of the questions that were posed at the
September 9, 2021, Redistricting Commission meeting. Mr. Royce Jones provided the following
information.
• Commissioner James Hustace asked about the demographic variable you see when using
the identify too. The following is a link to the ESRI help on that.

• A question was asked about seeing two plans side -by -side.
If you open a second instance of Hawaii Redistricting Online in a different browser
window and open a second plan in that window. You can then see them side -by -side.
• Questions were asked about the strange shapes of some census blocks and how to get
them changed for next census. The US Census calls this the "boundary block suggestion
project" or BBSP. Here is the link: https_//www2.census.gov/programs-

• There was a question about adding ahupuaa boundaries to the maps. The attached
document describes how to show them on the map.

Hawaii Redistricting Online — Adding Ahupuaa Boundaries to the Map Window
1) Open the "Map Contents" window by clicking the small triangle (pointing right) on the
upper left of the map window:

2) The "Ahupuaa" layer is turned off (no green check
mark in the left most box)

!) Click the empty box to turn on the "Ahupuaa" layer
G) Click the small triangle (pointing left) on the upper
ight of the Map Contents window to close the window
5) You should now see blue dotted lines marking the ahupuaa boundaries:
These ahupuaa boundaries are available on the two Hawaii County Council templates.
