Mellon-Lacey, Deputy Corporation Counsel
th
Re:Creation of a 10District
__________________________________________________________________
th
A commissioner has raised the questionregarding the possibility of the creation of a 10district.
Article XV Section
15-,states in Article III Section 3-2 Composition and Terms:There
shall be nine council districts, each of which shall be represented by a resident elected from that
district.
th
The creation of a 10district would require a charter amendment in accordance with Article XV
of the County Charter. This process involves the adoption of an ordinance by council, or a
petition signed by qualified electors equal in number to at least 20% of the total ballots cast in
the last preceding general election. The final step of the process involves placing the proposed
amendment or revision on the ballot for the next general election.
cc:Dennis Kauka, Redistricting Secretary
PatriciaNakamoto, Elections Program Administrator
Redistricting Commission Members
IğǞğźȊź /ƚǒƓƷǤ źƭ ğƓ 9ƨǒğƌ hƦƦƚƩƷǒƓźƷǤ 9ƒƦƌƚǤĻƩ ğƓķ tƩƚǝźķĻƩ
