A donated wildland tanker from the Daniel R. Sayre Founda on was put into service for South Kohala Fire Sta on. FLIR Thermal Imagers were issued to Fire Preven on and remaining sta ons that lacked one for emergency response. New HazMat Chemical Iden ﬁers and Gas Detectors were acquired for both Hazmat companies through DHS grant funds. 1,010 Fire Incidents 18,080 EMS/Rescue Calls 2,011 Service Calls 227 Hazmat Calls 3,813 Good Intent 317 False Calls 13 Severe Weather 1 Ambulance Ordered and Delivered 7 Paramedics Started Training (Class 2) The EMS Bureau was instrumental in the response to COVID19 for the County of Hawaii’s Task Force. Completed one Paramedic class and started a second during FY 20-21. EMS’s ac ve Community Paramedicine helped numerous frequent callers to ﬁnd the medical services and assistance they needed. Applied and received $380,000 from FEMA to purchase COVID-19 personal Pro- tec ve equipment and disinfec ng equipment. Applied and received a $86,000 mental health and ﬁrst aid educa on grant. 5 Paramedics Completed Training $380,000 COVID 19 PPE Grant The Fire Preven on Bureau, overseen by the Fire Preven on Ba alion Chief, adopts and enforces the ﬁre code; reviews plans and conducts inspec ons of new and exis ng construc on; coordinates public educa on events, and inves gates ﬁres in Hawaii County. This ﬁscal year, the sta of the preven on bureau were cri cal in helping to set up and operate the Hawaii County COVID19 Task Force. 802 Commercial Inspec ons 61 Public Educa on Events 20 Fires Inves gated 1,199 Plans Reviewed Fire Preven on Ocean Safety 332 Rescues 536,686 Preventa ve Ac ons 3,156,953 Beach Visitors 6,557 First Aid Assists 6 Resuscita ons 126 Surf Accidents Ocean Safety has been hard at work deploying IPads and star ng the process of digital tracking of daily beach and incident logs. Despite COVID19, beaches seemed to be as busy as ever with millions of visitors this year. Many thanks to the Sayre Founda on for their dona on of a replacement UTV, PA system, Rescue Boards, and purchasing the Street LG so ware to help track stats! FY20 21 Highlights! 49th Recruit Class Recruits Graduated,with ProBoard Cer ﬁca on Stay Safe,and test your smoke detectors every month! First ARFF/HFD Class First class to have both Airport and HFD Fireﬁghters Fire Police Dispatch New building approved and project awarded This year saw extensive co-training events held between Pohakuloa Training Ar- ea Fire Department, Hawaii Fire Department, and the State Airport Rescue and Fireﬁgh ng Department. Over $400,000 in CARES funding was secured to help deploy Mobile Data Ter- minals for the Fire Department to more safely respond to COVID-19. An O cer Development 40 hour training course was held in March . Ba alion Chief Keoki Brown was selected as Fireﬁghter of the Year by the Aloha Exchange Club. Training developed and conducted an extensive High Rise Opera ons Training for Central Fire Sta on at Bay Shore Towers.
