RESOLUTION NO. 157 17
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S BIKE
PATROL PROGRAM IN SOUTH HILO.
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Police Department's Community Police Officers are
responsible for developing partnerships within the community in an effort to create a safe and
secure environment; and
WHEREAS, the Bike Patrol program improves the visibility of Community Police
Officers in their community,allows greater interaction with Hawaii Island residents and visitors,
and supports effective and responsive law enforcement in areas such as street crimes, public
nuisances, recurring problems, and property crimes; and
WHEREAS, the bicycles used for the Bike Patrol program in South Hilo are weathered,
aged, and unsafe for officers to ride, and the Police Department lacks maintenance funds for
tune-ups, brake and chain replacements, tires, gears, and other essentials; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department has requested funds for the Bike Patrol program in
South Hilo for the purchase of new bicycles and maintenance costs; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAPI that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will he appropriated to the Police Department
for the Bike Patrol program in South Hilo.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Chief of Police and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
