RESOLUTION NO. 438 17
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A MONETARY
DONATION OF $500 TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.
WHEREAS, Ms. Christine Johnson is donating$500 to the Department of Parks and
Recreation; and
WHEREAS, these funds will be used to assist with expenses relating to the Pilikulaiwi
intersession program; and
WHEREAS, Pilikulaiwi is a multi-day program administered by the Department of
Parks and Recreation through its Recreation Division that provides culturally appropriate
activities and service projects to school-age children during the spring and fall intersessions to
demonstrate the importance of malama honua through hands-on work; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai`i County Charter provides that
the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or other
personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate, and Chapter 2, Article 30, Section
2-162(a) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), states that any gifts or
donations of money, securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization
procedures of the Department of Finance, may be accepted by resolution approved by the
Council; and
WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation recommends the acceptance of this
donation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in
accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai`i County Charter, and Chapter 2,
Article 30, Section 2-162(a) ofthe Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the
Council of the County of Hawai`i accepts this donation.

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution
be sent to Christine Johnson, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Department of Parks
and Recreation,the Department of Finance, and the Office of the Mayor to acknowledge this
generous donation.
