RESOLUTION NO. 206 191
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A MONETARY
DONATION OF$1,000 TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.
WHEREAS, Ms. Christine Johnson is donating $1,000 to the Department of Parks and
Recreation; and
WHEREAS, Pilikulaiwi is a multi-day program administered by the Department of
Parks and Recreation through its Recreation Division that provides culturally appropriate
activities and service projects to school-age children during the spring and fall intersessions to
demonstrate the importance of malama honua through hands-on work; and

WHEREAS, from this donation, $500 will be used to augment and improve the Fall
2019 Pilikulaiwi intercession program and $500 will be used to augment and improve the Spring
2020 Pilikulaiwi intersession program; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaii County Charter provides that
the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or other
personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate, and Chapter 2, Article 30, Section
2-162(a) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), states that any gifts or c
donations of money, securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization
procedures of the Department of Finance,may be accepted by resolution approved by the
Council; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation recommends the acceptance of this
donation; now,therefore,
accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaii County Charter, and Chapter 2,
Article 30, Section 2-162(a) ofthe Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the
Council of the County of Hawaii accepts this donation.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution
be sent to Christine Johnson, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Department of Parks
and Recreation, the Department of Finance, and the Office ofthe Mayor to acknowledge this
generous donation.
