RESOLUTION NO. 499 20
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PANIOLO
PRESERVATION SOCIETY TO ASSIST WITH A REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES
RELATED TO THE OLD HAWAII ON HORSEBACK: NA WAHINE HOLO LIO
PAGEANT.
WHEREAS, the Paniolo Preservation Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that
supports increased public awareness of the historical and present-day significance of Hawai`i's
ranching industry and traditions; and
WHEREAS, in furtherance of that mission, the Paniolo Preservation Society, on
September 14, 2019, held the Old Hawai`i on Horseback: Na Wahine Holo Lio pageant, a
celebration of women horseback riders and the history of ranching in Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, during the successful pageant, scores of costumed horses and riders
portrayed historical figures in Hawai`i from the 18th, 19th,and 20th centuries; and
WHEREAS, the Paniolo Preservation Society is requesting a reimbursement of expenses
relating to program costs and advertising for the event; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports festivals and events
that increase the economic contribution of our visitor industry to Hawai`i Island and enrich the
quality of life for Hawai`i residents; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to the Paniolo Preservation Society for a
reimbursement of expenses related to the Old Hawai`i on Horseback: Na Wahine Holo Lio
pageant.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms ofthis resolution.
