A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRINGIAPPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOSPICE OF HILO TO
ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE EVENT AT
REEDS BAY BEACH PARK.
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo, doing business as Hawaii Care Choices, is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization that provides compassionate palliative care, hospice care, and
bereavement care to help those in transition and their loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is planning its 16th annual Celebration of Life event,
scheduled for May 24, 2020, at Reeds Bay Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, this community event will culminate in the floating of the Lights of
Remembrance, with hundreds of luminarias released into the water in honor of those who have
passed; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is requesting funds to assist with the cost of security,
equipment rental, shuttle buses to transport attendees, and event marketing; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation facilitates a wide array of services
and opportunities that meet the needs of the Big Island community while maintaining cultural
uniqueness of our rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Hospice of Hilo to assist with expenses related to the
Celebration of Life event at Reeds Bay Beach Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council ofthe County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
