SUBJECT: Proposed Amendments to Bill No. 38; an Ordinance amending Chapter 24,
Article 10, Division 1 ofthe Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as
amended),relating to speed limits.
Please see below proposed amendments to Bill No. 38. This amendment corrects a reference
to the Hawai`i County Code, corrects the ramseyering of the affected provision, and adds
appropriate formatting language.
The proposed amendments are illustrated below in Ramseyer folivat with respect to the contents
of Bill No. 38. Material to be deleted is bracketed and stricken; new material is underscored.
1. The prefatory language of SECTION 1 is amended to read as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 24, article 10, division 1 (Speed Limits), section [21
26] 24-257, schedule 5, 35 mile per hour limit, subsection(c), South Hilo, of the
Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), is amended by revising
an existing item to read as follows:
2. The ramseyering of the affected provision is corrected by removing the underscoring
under the word"from." As corrected, the amendment should read as follows:
Kukuau Street, from a point one hundred fifty feet southwest ofKahikini Street
Komohana Street] to its [mauka] southwestern terminus."
3. SECTION 2 is amended to read as follows:
SECTION 2. Material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New
material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed and
stricken material, and underscoring need not be included."
A draft copy ofthe draft 2 of this bill that would result if these proposed amendments are
adopted is attached.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 24, article 10, division 1 (Speed Limits), section 24-257,
schedule 5, 35 mile per hour limit, subsection(c), South Hilo, ofthe Hawai`i County
Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), is amended by revising an existing item to read
as follows:
Kalil-au Street, from a point one hundred fifty feet southwest of Kahikini Street

SECTION 2. Material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New material is
underscored. In printing this ordinance,the brackets, bracketed and stricken material, and
underscoring need not be included.
SECTION 3. Severability. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application
thereof to any person or circumstance, is held invalid,the invalidity does not affect other
provisions or applications of the ordinance, which can be given effect without the invalid
provision or application, and to this end,the provisions of this ordinance are severable.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
