SUBJECT: Request for a status update on the Mass Transit Agency.
I am requesting at least 30 minutes for an update by the Mass Transit Agency regarding the
Agency's plan to acquire buses and equipment and how those acquisitions relate to: 1) the
County of Hawaii Transit and Multi-Modal Transportation Master Plan of 2018; and 2)the 2045
State of Hawaii zero emissions clean economy target codified in HRS Section 225P-5(a)1.
This request for an update is submitted in the spirit of Section 7.6 of the master plan, which
states: "To ensure transparency and build confidence and trust, it is recommended that MTA
regularly report back to Council on its progress. Examples of progress include: service
restoration and expansion, new routes instituted, schedule changes and adherence, bus
purchases, and similar metrics."
Please place this item on the next available agenda of the Public Works and Mass Transit
Committee.

225P-51 Zero emissions clean economy target. (a) Considering both atmospheric
carbon and greenhouse gas emissions as well as offsets from the local sequestration of
atmospheric carbon and greenhouse gases through long-term sinks and reservoirs, a
statewide target is hereby established to sequester more atmospheric carbon and
greenhouse gases than emitted within the State as quickly as practicable, but no later
than 2045.
