Mayor's Message
East Hawaii Cultural Center
Aloha! On behalf of the residents of the County of Hawai`i, it is a
great pleasure to welcome our friends and visitors to the East Hawaii
Cultural Center (EHCC), on February 18th, 2022, for the unveiling and
dedication of a new sculpture, prominently located on the front lawn of
the Center.
EHCC is a cherished part of Hawai`i County history. For five
decades the Center has exhibited art, presented performances, and
developed children's educational programs. The innovative bronze
sculpture was created by Hawaii Island resident and sculptor Michael
Shewmaker, and is titled Anaha, which can be translated as "Reflection. "
His studio and sculpture garden are located in Pepeekeo, Hawaii.
Mahalo to EHCC staff, volunteers, community partners and
sponsors, for their commitment to serving the East Hawaii Community
through art and cultural expressions fundamental to our collective well-
being.
