WHITNEY ARAGAKI
2022 Hawai`i Teacher of the Year
2022 National Teacher of the Year Finalist
On behalf of the citizens of the County of Hawai`i, it is my great pleasure to
congratulate Whitney Aragaki, named 2022 Hawaii Teacher of the Year in December
and chosen as one of four finalists for the 2022 National Teacher of the Year.
Whitney holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Swarthmore College, a
Master of Science in tropical conservation biology and environmental science from the
University of Hawaii Hilo and is currently pursuing a doctorate at UH Manoa's College
of Education in curriculum and instruction.
Whitney teaches biology and environmental science at Waiakea High School,
her alma mater. Her innovative approach to teaching supports student learning through a
lens of abundance that honors place, people, and cultures.
We acknowledge and commend Whitney Aragaki for her passion for education
and commitment to excellence that reaches far beyond the four corners of her
classroom.
