WHEREAS emergencies can occur at any time requiring police, fire, or emergency medical
services; and
WHEREAS problems of crime, fire, and other disasters touch and affect all segments of our
society, and if unabated, can undermine and erode both moral and economic strengths of our
community; and
WHEREAS,when an emergency occurs, the prompt response of law enforcement, firefighters,
and paramedics is critical to the protection of life and preservation of property; and
WHEREAS public safety dispatchers are the first and most critical contact our citizens have with
emergency services; and
WHEREAS these individuals are responsible for taking telephone calls from the general public
for police, fire, and emergency medical assistance, and for dispatching said assistance to help save
the lives and property of our citizens; and
WHEREAS public safety dispatchers are the single vital link for our law enforcement and fire
personnel by monitoring their activities by radio,providing them information, and ensuring their
safety; and
WHEREAS, each dispatcher has exhibited compassion, understanding, and professionalism
during the performance of their job in the past year; and
WHEREAS public safety dispatchers of our County of Hawai`i have contributed substantially to
the apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires,treatment of patients, and daily serve the
public in countless ways without due recognition by the beneficiaries of their services.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mitchell D. Roth, Mayor of the County of Hawai`i, do hereby proclaim
the week of April 10-16,2022, as:
ENHANCED 911/PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATORS WEEK
in the County of Hawai`i and urge all citizens to participate in making this week a successful
celebration.
