MAYOR'S MESSAGE
ENEWETAK LIBERATION DAY
Aloha! On behalf of the residents of the County of Hawai`i, it is a
great pleasure to welcome members of the Enewetak Atoll and Marshall
Island community, friends and families, to the opening ceremony of the
2022 Enewetak Liberation Day event on March 10, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at
Harold H. Higashihara Park in Honalo, Hawai`i.
With the theme, "To build a better tomorrow today, based on the
ruins of yesterday" or "Jej Kalek emmonlok eo an ilju raisin, bedbed wot
ion loran ko an inne, " this event will raise awareness of the 44 U.S.
nuclear bomb testing and cleanup programs on Enewetak Atoll- Marshall
islands, and will also showcase the resilience, beauty, and diversity of
the people who live in harmony as an integrated part of the diverse
community here on Hawai`i Island.

deeper connection.
