Petition to Special Permit#
PL-SPP-2022-00001
The placement of this satellite project works against the culture, economy, and well-
being of this small unique community.
Most of our constituency seeks community. Wood Valley represents an
absolute ideal of our dream. Individual beings; living in close proximity, sharing this
bountiful earth with each other, devoted to living in peace and harmony in this precious
valley, where everyone shares the privilege in not only bathing in the most rare and
pristine water but living within this sacred land.
We are a viable community combined in sharing a purpose in maintaining this precious
space in attempt to continue the historic legacy in this area.
1) There is no value to immediate community; the following describes cultural,
economic, environmental, sense-of-well being impact
2) Abomination. This nearly untouched land, has been honored by stewards of the such.
Rendering it a sacred site to behold. Agriculture, farming, grazing animals, limited
chemical management, have been common practice within this small community. No
place for satellite installation
3) Surrounding property value will decrease; the permit itself has already negatively
affected potential buyers (ECONOMIC)
4) Negatively affect vacation rental property businesses; this contributes to the main
source of income for this low economic class area (ECONOMIC)
5) This area is historically honored agricultural zoned land; this unique community of
homesteaders leads this legacy; proved by the success the Water Coop
6) There has been an excess of vandalism within the immediate community. There is no
security in place at large for protection; even limited Law Enforcement response times.
We can not afford to have more people entering into this unique community for all of
our securities sake. This project will invite an excess of unsolicited visitors that could
very well contribute to more vandalism
7) There is no security built in to ensure safety of assets
8) Poorly maintained roads would be at jeopardy for installation and
unsolicited traffic to see the site of satellite array. This would be the only place on the
island where people could get close to satellites; making it a tourist/resident attraction.
We can see proof of this type of traffic on the installation at South Point Road and
Upper Road (in between Pahala and Naalahu).
