Dear Vice Chairperson Galimba:
Subject: Applicant's Request to Defer Hearing regarding
Special Permit Application PL-SPP-2022-000012
Applicant: Yamada and Sons, Inc.
Request Proposed quarry and related activities on 37.882 acres
TMK: 2-1-013: 002 (portion), Waiakea, South Hilo
On behalf of the Applicant, Yamada and Sons, Inc., we are requesting that the hearing on
the above-described matter scheduled for the Commission's June 2, 2022 meeting be deferred
until the Commission's next meeting scheduled for July 7, 2022.
We apologize for this late notice and deferral request, but the Applicant was recently
made aware of opportunities to further dialogue and collaborate with the Keaukaha-Pana`ewa
Farmers Association regarding their testimony to the Commission dated May 30, 2022. By
requesting the deferral of the hearing, the Applicant looks forward to working with their
neighbors to build a greater understanding of the project and their needs and concerns, and
hopefully finding opportunities that will best serve everyone.
We extend our appreciation to the Windward Planning Commission for their
understanding and patience. Please feel free to contact me should there be any questions or need
