CALL TO ORDER:
HUSTACE: Aloha, everyone! Welcome to the third public hearing for the Hawaii
County Redistricting Commission. Today is Monday, October 18th. My name is James
Hustace and I am the Vice-Chair of the Redistricting Commission. I will just read a brief
announcement here. Because of the Coronavirus Emergency and State and Federal
guidance on large meetings or gatherings, and pursuant to the Mayor's Proclamations
regarding COVID-19, the Redistricting Commission meetings are currently not open to
the public to the extent that we wish. Until further notice, members of the public may
view or provide oral testimony via the Zoom platform by requesting this information as
noted in our agendas or reaching out to the Commission via email. So, thank you for
understanding. I will call this public hearing meeting to order. It is 6:03 in the evening.
STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
HUSTACE: This evening, as I mentioned, is our third public hearing. Our satellite this
evening is set up in Council District 3 at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course. We will wait
this evening online till about 6:30 to see if attendees from the public will join us either
online or at the Hilo Muni Golf Course. So I appreciate the patience of the
Commissioners joining us this evening. We do have a couple of the Commissioners on
the call and some at the site as well. And we look forward to the input from the
community. So thank you for joining us, Commissioners, and we will wait patiently to
see if we have guests joining us. So, mahalo.
Please note that during this time, Commissioners and support staff were on stand-by.
BATH: Hello?
HUSTACE: Hi there, Commissioner Bath. How are you?
BATH: Oh good. I'm sorry I'm late. I had a poor signal at my home, so I drove here into
Kea`au. I didn't want to drive all the way into Hilo and miss the whole meeting. No
testifiers?
HUSTACE: Not a problem. Not at the moment. We'll wait till 6:30 to see if anyone else
joins us in the last few minutes here.
BATH: Okay. Thank you.
HUSTACE: Thanks for joining us.
ANNOUNCEMENTS 1 CLOSING REMARKS
HUSTACE: Relley, this is James. Just checking in to see if we have anyone that joined us
there, at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
ARACELEY: Thank you, Commissioner. We have no one here to provide testimony.
HUSTACE: Thank you. Just thought I'd check in there. Unfortunately, we have no one
joining us this evening. But I'm grateful for the Commissioners hopping on here in hopes
that we hear from the community. Just a reminder to any viewers out there and the public
that if you are interested in submitting testimony or joining us and need information or
need help, you can email the Commission at redistrictingeommission@hawaiicounty.gov.
We look forward to receiving some input and feedback from the communities. Our next
scheduled public hearing for this week is Thursday, October 21St We'll be holding a
satellite site in District 4 at the Pdhoa District Park Community Center. So, we hope you
can join us and until next time, we'll see you soon. Have a good night. Aloha.
