MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, August 17, 2022

CALL TO ORDER
The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:42 a.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Farrah -Marie Gomes, Vice -Chair Elena Cabatu, Treasurer Andrew
Langtry, Corresponding Secretary Shana Kukila, Dr. Hannah Preston -Pita, Christina
Basham.
Excused: Evelyn Kahea Lee, Rachelle Agrigado, State Commissioner Jennifer
Stotter.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES for July 20, 2022
Farrah noted that on page 2, B, a, DISCUSSION, the first sentence has an extra
`the'. It should read "Committee discussed the pros and cons of having the
@hawaiicounty email address." Farrah also noted that on page 4, Hawaiian is
spelled with an extra T.
MOTION: Elena motioned to approve the minutes with the noted edits; Andrew
seconded the motion. All members unanimously voted to approve the minutes with
the noted edits. Motion approved.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT
A. Approval of Treasurer's Report
Andrew shared the Treasurer's Report, and he noted there is $10,000 in the
budget for 2022-2023. Shana asked about how activities fit into the categories for
project budget projection. Andrew shared the corresponding General Ledger (GL)
codes for accounting.
ACTION ITEM: Andrew will send the GL codes to Allen for distribution to members.
MOTION: Elena moved to approve the Treasurer's Report for 2022-2023; Shana
seconded the motion. The committee members voted unanimously to approve the
budget. The budget for 2022-2023 was approved.
V. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
There were no statements from the public.
VI. CORRESPONDENCE
The Donkey Mill Art Center wishes to invite the Hawaii County Committee on the
Status of Women to their August 27 Exhibition from 4-7pm, showcasing the artwork
of women from around the nation and Hawai'i, highlighting the issue of violence
against women and girls. It is free and the exhibition is open to the public.

VII. REPORTS
A. Statements from the Public

B. Hawaii State CSW (HSCSW) liaison report
The new liaison was not present, so this topic was tabled.
C. Family Violence Interagency Committee (FVIC)
West Hawai'i report by Christina: DV vigil and Hilo housing meeting discussed.
East Hawai'i Report by Shana: meeting was canceled; DV vigil meeting held later
in month to discuss quilt display, date of vigil, partners; DV summit in late
October partnership with HCC, kokua requested by Donna Madrid of HCC.
Housing meeting report by Hannah: 3 priorities identified (1) Permanent / Stable
Housing and Supports; (2) Substance Abuse Treatment; (3) Children and
Families.
D. Missing Murdered Native Hawaiian Women and Girls (MMNHWG) Task
Force
Farrah reported that the next meeting is on August 25. Update to come at the
September CSW meeting.

B. Approval to amend by-laws to address the following:

C. HSCSW Conference
Farrah shared via email the slideshow she presented at the conference in July.
This was also previously sent to all committee members via email.
D. Sub -Committee Memberships
a. Nomination and Election of Sub -Committee members
Tabled by Chair due to not all members present. Farrah shared the rules
for subcommittees according to the Sunshine Law. All subcommittee
meetings must follow the public posting of an agenda.

E. Communications Sub -Committee reports
a. Status of Chair and Secretary email accounts
i. Presentation — Best Practices
Tabled by Chair due to Corporation Counsel's absence.
b. Facebook updates
Shana requested members to engage with page by following, inviting
others to follow, liking and sharing posts, sharing information to post from
their own agencies, in order to broaden engagement and improve public
awareness.
Shana also requested assistance with a survey on Facebook and noted
that there is a google spreadsheet that Farrah provided based on the
PRIDE Parade booth responses, but no data has been compiled or
aggregated. Shana specifically requested for someone else to take this
over, particularly those from the research subcommittee.
c. Family Services Directory
Members said they are handing out directories.
d. Distribution log
The Chair sent a Google doc for the distribution log. Christina said she
could not open it. Elena added that she could not open it, and she asked if
someone would help with the data entry who has access to the doc.
Shana offered to do it since she has access.
ACTION ITEM: Members will send Shana their distribution log entries.
F. Outreach Sub -Committee reports
a. 2022 Year of the Mother
Shana shared updates on video interviews and future activities from July -
December, such as the HCC Domestic Violence summit and a
Thanksgiving food drive.
i. Approval of project rationale
Shana said she has to update the rationale as activities have evolved.
Shana will work on it and bring it to the September meeting.
Committee members were asked to engage with any of the upcoming
events that are being planned.

b. Teen Dating Violence
i. Distribution log
Shana has the cards and will keep track of who takes them for
distribution. Christina asked if someone could bring them over to
Kona.
ACTION ITEM: Shana will ask Allen if he can take cards to Kona
CFS when he goes over.
c. Real Women Essay
Farrah shared that she is working on this project for next year.
d. Ma`i Movement
No update.

H. Legislative & Advocacy
a. Human Trafficking
Shana said that the July 30 sign waving went well. Kahea and Lisa
attended with Ho'ola Na Pua at the Kamehameha Statue in Hilo.

c. Hawaii Island Women's Leadership Summit
No report.
X. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Next meeting: Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 9:30am via Zoom.

MOTION: Andrew motioned to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m.; Shana seconded
the motion. Members unanimously voted to adjourn. The Vice -Chair adjourned the
meeting at 10:30 a.m.
