I’ve long been a proponent for a greener Hawai’i, and here is an opportunity to vastly improve
our solid waste problem.
I urge you to recommend that the county council funds a facilitator to
organize meetings with stakeholders before the release of the Request for
Applications (fall). Waiting until the RFA comes may prevent stakeholders
from coordinating a plan.
We need to get public and private entities working together toward improving our
systems, as the EPA will prioritize funding those collaborative efforts. (Zero Waste
Hawaii is doing a fabulous job of working toward a lighter load on our landfills!)
If you folks do not have the capacity to do the grant writing on this, I urge you to
recommend that the county fund a grant writer to make this happen.
