Dear EMC friends of the earth,
Regarding Agenda Item VII-1:
I’ve been stockpiling plastics for several years now (other than #2 and HI 5 which
can still be recycled), hoping and waiting for a time when I can turn them in for
recycling. Try as we might not to buy plastics, they are impossible to avoid.
The opportunity to get a federal grant to get a better recycling program up and
running should not be missed. Mayor Roth promised that his administration
would do better in seeking and gaining access to grant funds so as to expand our
County’s resources to fulfill our island’s needs, and getting this grant would be
fantastic.
Please recommend to the county council that they fund a facilitator to organize
meetings with stakeholders ahead of the release of the Request for Applications.
This will give us adequate time to discuss possibilities and avoid disagreements
farther down the road. I fully support the efforts of Zero Waste Hawaii.
