KOMETANI TESTIMONY 12.9.2021From: Vickv Kametani To: LPCtestimanv Subject: Item #10 North Kohala rezoning request Date: Thursday, December 9, 2021 6:29:29 PM I have previously submitted testimony in opposition of rezoning TMK 5-5-009:019 from ag to commercial. While the applicant has adjusted his proposal from two food trucks to one, this in no way addresses: * Increased foot traffic safety concerns from the town of Hawi to the location which is NOT "in town; there are no sidewalks * The total cultural disconnect of the "Welcome to Historic North Kohala" sign at the corner of Akoni Pule and Ho'ea Road, and .... a food truck operation ? * The specifics of parking mitigation? Landscaping is not going to prevent "overflow parking" on Ho'ea Road, (possibly impending County vehicles going and coming from the County base yard), Akoni Pule Hwy., which has no shoulder space for parking, or taking staff parking spaces away from employees of the North Kohala Community Resource Center. Tourists will park wherever, whenever. * Submission/Planning Department report says the parcel has been maintained? Have you seen it? Totally overgrown and covered with weeds. * And lastly, some clarity on someone's interpretation of the Kohala CDP that seemingly says the rezoning of this parcel is a good idea? Please reconsider approval of rezoning as it does not befit "Historic North Kohala" in any way. Mahalo, Vicky Kometani
