Sustainable Kohala Steering Committee supports the following projects, and hopes that in your advisory capacity,
the EMC will as well.
1. Enable small businesses to access transfer station use. Support additional capacities such as labor and containers.
2. Create pilot for Resource Recovery Park at Kea’au Transfer Station (or another site). Support additional land for
drop off stations for various materials, enable shredding, composting and distribution. Support building of “fix it”
stations for re-use of materials, and warehouse for entrepreneurs to develop re-use and recycle operations.
3. Promote home composting through provision of equipment and coordination of collection of pre and post
materials. Support acquisition of additional composers and shredders.
4. Work in partnerships with Waste Management and Hawai’i Earth Resources to expand grant support for
recycling.
Thank you for all your effort on behalf of sustainable solid waste management.
