Many projects that seemed okay back then aren't appealing, sensible, or
worthy of approval now. In fact, some are quite the opposite (aka potentially damaging). Reasons for
this can be lack of supportive infrastructure, destruction of native species once thought to be resilient
but now known to be threatened, cultural sites and activities discovered where they weren't seen or
noticed, a new understanding of the value of keeping agriculturally viable lands free of development so
that they can provide food and sustainability for island residents, new planning paradigm based on
Smart Growth. The list goes on.
This project seems to hit all the warning bells.
Without full clarification and justification of why this project would be good for more than the
developer, this applicant should be required to go back to the drawing board.
Mahalo and sincerely,
Janice Palma-glennie
Kailua-kona
'd at _ mtg by _
td _,,_ Reed
