NELSON TESTIMONY 11.14.2022Araujo, Jaclyn From: brendanelson@hawaii.rr.com Sent: Monday, November 14, 2022 5:21 PM To: LPCtestimony Subject: Oppose Item #2, Applicant: Shawn Maile Nakoa, Esq. (PL-REZ-2022-000017), TMK: (3) 7-7-008:062 Aloha Planning Commission, thank you for your time: I oppose this application for the many reasons. But the overriding objection I would like to state is the failure of the county to expand north -south traffic corridors. Expanding residential housing south of Kona and thereby adding more auto traffic to the overburdened Kuakini Highway or Ali 'I Drive is irresponsible. There is nothing by GRID LOCK between Kamehameha III and Lako Street as you should be aware of and should be a priority for this Planning Department. Why would anyone consider adding additional traffic to this unsafe highway. Emergency vehicles often have a hard time passing the completely stopped highway during rush hour traffic; in the morning and afternoon/evening. The Ali'I Parkway has not been completed and it is generally well know that it will NEVER be completed due to "sacred burial site(s) that were discovered during early excavation. That would solve a lot of the problem if these burial sites could be respectfully and honorably moved to allow the parkway to be completed. But that does not appear to be possible. And it doesn't seem the widening of Kuakini Highway/Queen Kaahumanu Highway between Kamehameha II and Lako Street will happen. It would be a nightmare if that ever did as the construction would likely completely close a portion of that north -south corridor leaving only Alii Drive to exist for a year of construction. Nightmare! Please oppose ay new development around Kona until additional north -south traffic infrastructure is completed and in place. Thank you, Brenda Nelson 77-251 Maliko Street Kailua-Kona, HI
