HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-05-15 Leeward Planning Commission Minutes LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION COUNTY OF HAWAIÒI MINUTES MAY 15, 2009 The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:40 a.m. in the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, Ballroom I, 75-5660 Palani Road, Chairman Rodney Watanabe presiding. PRESENT: Rodney Watanabe Lani Bowman Geraldine Giffin Frederic Housel Bill Brilhante, Deputy Corporation Counsel Margaret Masunaga, Deputy Planning Director Norman Hayashi, Planning Program Manager Jeff Darrow, Staff Planner Maija Cottle, Staff Planner Deanne Bugado, Planner, Kona Office Kiran Emler, Engineering Division, Department of Public Works Commissioner Watanabe welcomed all in attendance, and introduced the Commissioners and staff to members of the public. He explained that he was actually the Chair of the former Planning Commission, and that the first business of the Leeward Planning Commission is to elect the officers. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The Commission took this item up at 9:42 a.m., with approximately 13 people from the public in attendance. Commissioner Watanabe opened the nominations for the officers. Commissioner Housel nominated Commissioner Watanabe for Chairman. It was moved by Commissioner Giffin and seconded by Commissioner Bowman that the nominations be closed. The motion was carried by voice vote of all Commissioners in att Commissioner Bowman nominated Commissioner Giffin for First Vice Chair. It was moved by Commissioner Bowman and seconded by Commissioner Housel that the nominations be closed. The motion was carried by voice vote of all Commissioners in att Commissioner Watanabe stated that since there are no contenders for the officer positions, the slate of Commissioners nominated are declared elected as officers for the remainder of 2009, and suggested that Second Vice Chair be elected when the three vacant seats of the Commission have been filled. No objections were made. 1 REZ 875 & SPP 1010 The Commission took up the following two items simultaneously GRACE COMMUNITY at 9:45 a.m. with approximately 13 people from the public in CHURCH attendance. ND HONOKHAU 2, NORTH KONA APPLICANT: GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH (REZ 875) Amendment to conditions relating to extension of time limits and related conditions of Ordinance No. 98-08, which rezoned approximately 5.055 acres of land from Agricultural - 5 acres (A-5a) to the Residential and Agricultural - .5 acre (RA-.5a) district. The property is located on the east side of Palani Road adjacent to and north of the Kona Christian Academy, Honokhau 2nd, North Kona, HawaiÒi, TMK: 7-4-006:038. APPLICANT: GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH (SPP 1010) Amendment to conditions relating to extension of time limits and related conditions of Special Permit 1010, which allowed the establishment of a church and related facilities on approximately 3 acres of land. The property is located on the east side of Palani Road adjacent to and north of the Kona Christian Academy, Honokhau 2nd, North Kona, HawaiÒi, TMK: 7-4-006: portion of 038. (SEE EXHIBIT A) ADMINISTRATIVE The Commission took up the following at this time, 10:52 a.m., MATTERS with approximately ten people from the public in attendance. Mr. Brilhante had nothing to report to the Commission. ANNOUNCEMENTS The following announcements were made: th Mr. Hayashi announced that due to a lack of quorum the June 19 meeting will be rescheduled thth for either June 29 or June 30. Mr. Hayashi also mentioned that there will be a HawaiÒi Congress of Planning Officials rdth conference at the Sheraton Waikiki on Oahu from September 23 through September 25.
