In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision making positions on an equal basis with men; and WHEREAS Zonta International imagines a world where no woman lives in fear of violence. Through the "Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women" campaign, members and allies stand together, uniting our voices to advocate for all those who have suffered gender-based violence; and WHEREAS violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights violations and a global epidemic. It knows no national or cultural barriers; it takes place at home, in the workplace and in open spaces, and affects millions of women and girls in peacetime and conflict. It includes psychological, physical, and sexual violence. Violence against women and girls threatens countries, inhibits economic progress, and prevents women from contributing to their community ad creating better lives for themselves and their families; and WHEREAS in order to fully recover from COVID-19 and build a better future for women and girls, we must commit to working together and ensuring that human rights are at the forefront of recovery efforts; and WHEREAS during the 16 Days of Activism — November 25 to December 10, Zonta Club Hilo will participate in the Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign, taking local actions to influence the making and implementation of laws, as well as changing gender- based attitudes and behaviors to end violence against women. NOW, THEREFORE, I, MITCHELL D. ROTH, Mayor of the County of Hawai`i, do hereby proclaim,November 2.5'11—December 10th, 2022, as ZONTA SAYS NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN CAMPAIGN 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM in the County of Hawai`i and I encourage all residents to prevent gender-based violence by educating the community on its harm, to advocate for survivors of gender-based violence and to act in service on their behalf. Together we can make the world safer for women and girls now and in future generations. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused The Seal of the County of Hawai`i to be affixed.
