WHEREAS 2022 marks the 110'Anniversary of the founding of The Outdoor Circle,
the oldest environmental organization in Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS the Outdoor Circle was started in 1912 as a civic organization dedicated
to the protection, promotion, and advocacy of the scenic and natural beauty of Hawai`i, and
has sponsored tree plantings continually over this centuryplus history and proud legacy; and
WHEREAS the Outdoor Circle established its,first branch ofmany on Hawai`i Island
in 1949 in order to carry out its mission of beautification of our State of Hawai`i through
advocacy in removal of visual blight, canopy shade tree planting, highway and streetscape
beautification,fostering creation and caretaking ofparks and gardens, protecting wild lands,
and thorough many other projects fostering deep civic pride that continues to this day; and
WHEREASplanting trees is an easy wayfor all ofus to both enhance our environment
and help preserve the planetforfuture generations; and
WHEREAS in recognition of the critical value of trees, the branches of The Outdoor
Circle, in conjunction with Hawai`i's Arbor Day, will hold tree giveaways throughout the state
to encourage residents to plant trees on their property; and
WHEREAS East Hawai`i Outdoor Circle, Waikoloa Village Outdoor Circle and
Waimea Outdoor Circle, will each hold tree giveaways on Arbor Day, November 5, 2022,
giving away over 1000 trees, with educational components and staffavailable at each location.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mitchell D. Roth, Mayor of the County ofHawai`i, do hereby
proclaim November 5, 2022, as
THE OUTDOOR CIRCLE 110'ANNIVERSARY APPRECIATION DAY
in Hawai`i County and encourage our citizens to support The Outdoor Circle, and to celebrate
the beauty and importance of trees in our lives, for today, and for the future. We welcome
everyone to join the continuing mission of keeping Hawai`i a clean, green, beautiful,
sustainable, place to live.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused The Seal of the
