WHEREAS over 154,000 people in Hawai`i are family caregivers for
their loved ones; and
WHEREAS caregivers are superheroes - managing medications, getting
to doctor appointments, and balancing work and home; and
WHEREAS, with elderly loved ones aging at home, safety and security
must be the first priority; family caregivers can use tech tools to help keep
kupuna safe, maintain their independence, and relieve some of their worries;
and
WHEREAS, accessing patient medical records online is getting easier
and more powerful every day; millions of family caregivers have already
accessed their loved one's online medical records to improve care; and
WHEREAS, managing medications is the most important daily
responsibility of a family caregiver as patients may have more than one
illness and have to take several medications, tech tools are an easy, safe way
to track medications; and
WHEREAS caregiving is overwhelming, and with the responsibility of
family caregivers in our country growing every year, it is even more essential
to encourage family caregivers to take advantage of apps to streamline their
tasks so they can make caregiving a bit less stressful and continue their
mission of providing the loving care that only they can provide.
NOW THEREFORE I, Mitchell D. Roth, Mayor of the County of Hawaii
do hereby proclaim, November 2022, as:
NATIONAL FAMILY CAREGIVERS' MONTH
Caregiving Happens"
in the County of Hawaii and urge the residents of our community to
recognize and honor family caregivers across our Island.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused The
Seal of the County of Hawai`i to be affixed. Done this 1st day of November
2022, in Hilo, Hawai'i.
