WHEREAS the Hawai`i State Bar Association (HSBA) unites and inspires
Hawaii's lawyers by promotingjustice, serving the public, and improving the legal
profession; and
WHEREAS, as part of the HSBA's effort, the Young Lawyers Division
YLD) of the HSBA is promoting the 2022 Law Week program; and
WHEREAS the YLD is coordinating and conducting informational
interviews on KHON2 News that will cover family law and custody; landlord
tenant; bankruptcy; estate planning and elder law; and general law and court
procedures; and
WHEREAS the YLD is offering.free in-person and virtual legal clinics to
the public on a wide variety of topics. Providing these free services were critical
during the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS volunteer lawyers will be at the clinics to help educate the
public about various areas of the law and share free legal information with those
who attend;
WHEREAS these clinics will provide pro bono legal services to the
community by providing free legal information and referrals to other nonprofit
legal organizations and government and community services as appropriate; and
NOW THEREFORE, I, MITCHELL D. ROTH, Mayor, of the County of
Hawai`i, do hereby proclaim June 20 to 26, 2022 as
LAW WEEK"
in Hawai`i County and ask the people of the County of Hawai`i to join us in
recognizing the HSBA and the YLD for their commitment to improving the legal
profession and highlighting the important role of attorneys, judges, and other
legal professionals in our community. Furthermore, we encourage our residents
to attend thefree legal clinics being offered and learn about the different areas of
the law.
