Aloha Planning Commission!
I am a physician with a family practice in Pahoa, as well as a mother and farm owner in the
area. I am writing in support of the special permit application for Robert Silber. Robert is a
quality and high integrity community member. He is an ethical, generous and hard-working
person who has developed a functional neighborhood that is also a benefit to the larger
community. He has 30 years experience in agriculture/permaculture, environmental work
as well as personal growth and development.
He has worked hard to develop good relations with the larger community and with other
neighbors at the Lolia Subdivision. He has planted and tended hundreds of fruit trees and
fenced off over 40 acres of land around the 12 parcels in the neighborhood to increase
sustainability and prevent pig damage. He has invested significantly in the property to build
solid infrastructure and safe buildings and is committed to ensuring that any outstanding
building permit issues are resolved. He stayed and continued to work on the land and
infrastructure even after the devastating 2018 Lava Flow and the Pandemic.
I ask you to approve this special permit request as Robert has demonstrated his consistent
stewardship and care for the Aina, the Puna community and willingness to do the hard work
necessary to create something of value for others.
