PLANNING COMMISSION
COUNTY OF HAWAII
MINUTES
June 3, 2005
The Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:05 a.m. in the County Building,
Councilroom - Room 201, 25 Aupuni Street, Hilo, Hawaii, with Chairman Fred Galdones
presiding.

The Chair introduced the Commissioners and staff to members of the public.
SPP 05-006The Commission took this item up at 9:07 a.m. with
PUNA BAPTIST CHURCHapproximately 29 people from the public in attendance.

APPLICANT: PUNA BAPTIST CHURCH (SPP 05-006)
Special Permit to allow the establishment of a church and related improvements on
approximately 2.91 acres of land situated within the State Land Use Agricultural District. The
property is located along the south side of the Pahoa-Pohoiki Road (Highway 132), adjacent and
to the east of the Pahoa Woodland Subdivision, Pahoa, Kaniahiku, Puna, Hawaii,
TMK: 1-5-115:8.

SPP 05-007The Commission took this item up at 11:02 a.m. with
GREGORY J. PLESCIA approximately 5 people from the public in attendance.

Special Permit to allow the construction of a 2,400-square foot building for a certified
(commercial) kitchen on approximately 2,400 square feet of land situated within the State Land

Use Agricultural District. The property is located along the makai side of Uluhe Street (33
Street), approximately 2,500 feet northwest of Makuu Drive, Hawaiian Paradise Park
Subdivision, Keaau, Puna, Hawaii, TMK: 1-5-16:portion of 142.

MINUTESThe Commission took up the following minutes at this time,
12:04 p.m.
March 18, 2005 It was moved by Commissioner Springer and seconded by Commissioner
Alameda that the minutes be approved as circulated. Motion was unanimously carried by a voice
vote of all Commissioners in attendance.
ADMINISTRATIVEThe following were considered under administrative
MATTERSmatters at this time, 12:05 p.m.:
Status of appeals filed on Planning Commission decisions - Corporation Counsel Mr. Torigoe
stated he had nothing new to report.
Other Commission matters In response to Commissioner Springers inquiry, Mr. Yuen reported
that the hearings officers will be informed of the disposition of the contested case hearing on
Wayne Blasmans SMA Use Permit application (SMA 02-003) as soon as the proper documents
are signed. Mr. Hayashi then reported that Hearings Officer Sherry Broder will be conducting
the contested case hearing of Parker School Board of Directors Use Permit application
(USE 05-001) on July 11, 2005 in Waimea; Hearings Officer Tom Yeh will be conducting the
contested case hearing for John and Jeanne Vurichs special permit application (SPP 04-017) on
August 24, 2005 at the Aupuni Center in Hilo: and Hearings Officer Colin Love will be
contacting the parties to set the schedule for the contested case hearing of Cellco Partnership dba
VerizonWirelessSpecialPermitApplication(SPP05-004).Mr.HayashithenaddedthatParker
School Trust Corporations Use Permit application (USE 04-006) has been withdrawn.
ANNOUNCEMENTSThe following were made under announcement at this time,
