Please see the comments below for the mentioned KVDC agenda:
Sign 1:
1) Applicant has defined sign 1 as a monument sign which is not a defined sign per chapter 3 sec 3-3
definitions. If the proposed sign is a ground sign the maximum allowable area per sec. 3-58(2) (b) is 22 sf,
the proposed is 22.5 sf.
2) Although not defined on the proposed design but scaling the letters against the overall height of the sign,
the letters and number exceed the allowable maximum height of nine inches per sec 3-58 (c)
Sign 2:
1) Unable to define the size of the proposed sign as the letter heights or sign height is not specified. However,
the maximum allowable area for a wall sign is 22sf. Per sec 3-58 (5) (B).
2) Although not defined on the proposed design but scaling the letters against the overall height of the sign,
the letters and number exceed the allowable maximum height of nine inches per sec 3-58 (c)
3) Proposed sign exceeds maximum elevation allowed of nine feet above finish grade per sec 3-59 (a) (4)

The County of Hawaii is launching its new Electronic Processing & Information Center (EPIC)
permit system on July 26,2021. Only electronic applications will be accepted after that date. For

Subject: Request for comments for two sign permits for March 7th, 2023 Kailua Village Design Commission meeting
Aloha Kakou,
The following two sign permits have been submitted and will be placed on the agenda for the Kailua Village
Design Commission on March 7, 2023. We ask for your review and comment on each, we ask specifically
if the proposed signs meet the basic Sign Code requirements for placement in the Kailua Village(type and
number or signs, letter/logo height, sign area,placement elevation) and if you have any other comment or
advisement to the commission regarding the proposed application.

• PL-KVD-2023-000029 Pacific 19 Sign Permit Application
• PL-KVD-2022-000026 HFS Federal Credit Union Sign Permit Application
• We kindly ask that you submit your comments to planning(&bawaiicounty.gov no later than
February 28, 2023.
