BARKER TESTIMONY LATE Mori, Ashley From:Ronda Barker <rondabarker@icloud.com> Sent:Wednesday, September 15, 2021 11:04 AM To:Sauer, Noriko Subject:Re: Public testimony Mahalo Noriko, I understand. However I am very disappointed. I am a school counselor at one of the largest elementary schools in the state and I see firsthand the need for our community to have programs for children and youth. We have very limited programs for exercise and athletics. Kona Aerials is the only gymnastics facility on the Kona side of the island and only one of two gymnastics facilities on the whole island. It would be absolutely devastating to our community if this permit does not go through. We have girls that have been training their whole lives and are only two years away from receiving college scholarships. It would absolutely devastate their careers for Kona Aerials to close down. We’ve had kids in foster care that have received scholarships to participate in our Gymnastics program, it has become their family that they never had. We throw Christmas parties, birthday parties, we adopt families in the community during the holidays and help support them. Last year we helped provide gifts towards families in need at Christmas time. We do food drives and donate to local food banks. I could go on and on about the ways that this gymnastics club not only services it’s own members but the members of the community as well. Please if there’s any way to make an exception and allow me to testify I would be so grateful. If not could you please pass along this information to whoever is going to be making this decision tomorrow? I'm sorry because I understand your desire to testify, but as you were aware, the registration deadline was 4:30 p.m. yesterday, and we are instructed to adhere to it, as that is the way in which the Planning Commission can be fair to everyone.
